Might sound a little strange but it works, chicken and lentils cooked together a great accompaniment with rice. so if you looking to try something different to try then this is for you.
Lentils are great source of protein and so is chicken, combo of both makes a high protein dish. You can have it with rice or salad itās equally good. I love eating lentils of any type, they all have their unique tastes. I like to experiment with them and make something different now and then so that the meal times arenāt repetitive and boring.

I have used chicken breast in this so added it in the end but you can also use chicken thighs which can be cooked with lentils and will give more flavour.
Ingredients: (serves 2)
- 1/2 cup of Yellow mung Dhal
- 1 white onion chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1/2 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chillies, more if you want more heat
- 1 tsp mustard and cumin seeds each
- 1 tsp asafoetida
- 1/4 a tin of tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp turmeric, salt to taste
- 1 chicken breast or 2-3 chicken thighs

Method:
- add lentils with about 2 cups of water with little turmeric and salt in a pan and cook on high heat until it starts to bubble then turn the heat down cook for 15 mins. You can add chicken thighs at this stage if you are using them.
- meanwhile prepare tadka, add little oil in a pan, when oil is hot, add asafoetida, mustard and cumin seeds. when seeds starts splattering add onion and cook until they are light brown/golden
- add garlic, ginger and cook until you get the aroma and are golden
- add tomatoes, cook until the oil is separated from tadka
- add salt, turmeric and green chillies, cook for few minutes. add cooked dhal, at this stage add chicken breast if you are using them and cook for 10 mins on low heat or until the chicken is cooked.
- Enjoy !
